Keep Wild Animals Out of Your Home for Good

Critters VIP is the homeowner guide from Cypress Critters and Pests. It covers the two jobs Michael Gerbino is called for most: humane live trapping to get the animal out, and exclusion to close the way back in.

Two jobs, done in the right order

First: get the animal out alive

A live trap or a one-way door is set on the path the animal already uses. Nothing is poisoned, so nothing dies in your attic or wall. The trap is checked and the animal is removed under Texas rules.

Then: close every way in

Exclusion means sealing the gaps at the roofline, vents, pipes and foundation with materials an animal cannot chew or pull loose. This is the step that stops the next raccoon, squirrel or rat from moving into the same spot.

Know the law before anyone moves an animal

Texas law decides what can happen to a trapped raccoon, skunk, opossum, squirrel or bat. Some of these animals may not be carried anywhere at all. We wrote the rules out in plain English with the agency sources.

Who does the work

Cypress Critters and Pests is a small, owner operated company. Michael Gerbino inspects the house, sets the traps and does the sealing himself, for homes and for commercial buildings. The work is guaranteed. If an animal gets back in through work he did, he comes back.

The full service pages live on the main site: animal exclusion, raccoons, squirrels, opossums, rats and mice, snakes, skunks and bats.

“Excellent service from Cypress Critters and Pests. Our home was invaded by varmints in our attic, we were very concerned. Michael was very personable and professional. He made his recommendations and took care of all the varmints and squirrels. Thank you, Michael, we are your customers for life.”

Questions homeowners ask

Is sealing the house enough, or does the animal have to be caught first?

Both, in that order. If the opening is closed while a raccoon or squirrel is still inside, it will chew a new way out or die in the wall. The animal comes out first, by live trap or a one-way door, and then every gap is closed.

Why does Michael lead with exclusion?

Because catching one animal does not stop the next one. The smell and the open gap stay behind, so another animal finds the same way in. Closing the entry points is what keeps the problem from coming back.

Will the trapped animal be let go somewhere else?

Not always, and that is the law, not a choice. Texas has a statewide rabies quarantine: live raccoons, skunks, foxes and coyotes may not be moved from, to or within the state except by a few exempt groups. Our plain English rules page lists what applies to each animal.

How do I reach Michael?

Call or text 713-775-8799. Tell him what you hear or see, where in the house, and what time of day. A photo of droppings, a torn vent or a chewed corner helps him know what he is dealing with before he arrives.
